meaning

At first I want to make sure that the song Hello Lucifer deals with no satanistical thoughts. And as the writer of this song I can assure that I never gave it such a radical meaning when I wrote it in 2004.
It was a real force that made me writing it. It only took 3 hours and the song was done. I wrote it on the spot. I had this music running in my head for days and then I put it down as if I was struck by lightning. And of course it was not Lucifer that lead my hands on the piano. There was something else that made me doing it. A tremendous inspiration that really thrilled me. It was incredible.

The elementary theme of it is the human behaviour - actually the human misbehaviour. It's a feeling that I feel from time to time and I guess other people feel that as well. It's about being aware of the fact that you get the desire or the impulse, something that drives you to do crazy, nasty, impolite or inappropriate things against society's rules and norms. What is that? What makes us do those things although there's the voice of our moral that strictly forbids us that kind of actions? What is it? Is it our inner demon or Lucifer himself? The Good Book says the devil may be responsible for anything bad we do. I wanted to go deep into psychology and characterize it in a way.

Hello Lucifer is pretty much about this desire. I wanted to give it a face and an identity and Lucifer is just the title of it but not the personality I wanted to give that face. So there was Lula. One day she was in my head like things always start. She showed up and told me about the things she does. Once again I have to assure that she's fictitious and was not inspired by a real existing person. Lula is not like the other girls because she never wanted to become a vet, like most of all the conventional girls wanted to become. She knew about the blood and hard moments concerning being a vet. On top of that she's nasty. She's rude. She's crazy, insane and simply must be possessed by a demon. She is impulsive, compulsive and manic and she does not like to talk about 'girl things'. She talks about life and death, heaven and hell, devil and God, good and bad, peace and war – anything that is controversial and causes great contrasts. She is this feeling and the personification of the mentioned desire in us. With her as the protagonist of Hello Lucifer we can explore it a little bit better. She's one of those girls that like to hang out in graveyards to meet the spirits.

The word 'hello' is a saluting term that is meant as a little sympathising and belittlement of the bad, bad devil. Just to greet him and question him about some irrelevant things. Telling him irrelevant things means that I put myself to the same level on which he is or where the cult around him put him on. He looks very authentic in all his kind when we look at this feeling that I wanted to write about. At first people act compulsive after they become aware of their moral and ethic principles. Behind simple words can be a much bigger meaning. So I wanted to make sure that I'm not writing an eulogy about Lucifer. I wanted to explore this desire we have some time and I wanted to portray that through the story of Lula.

Some people told me about their very own experience with this song. Some see this song as a lovesong. I like it when people interpret songs on their own and find their own story that is able to run beside mine.

lyrics

hello Lucifer
how're your goats?
how's your Jesus, the beggar?
is he still hanging
still hanging up with his traitors?
tomorrow we'll do a barbecue
so could you lend me your pyre
then I'd burn all your blames in the fire

hello Lucifer
your face always blurred now is so clear to me
and Lula is the only girl
that don't wanna be a vet
please don't go yet
like God does when things become serious
so your apocalypse is fabulous
will she choke on her Easter egg?
if she dances on Jesus' back

I don't need no disintegration
I'm not afraid of the Inquisition
I never dared to read the epitaph
Lucifer, don't you blow the gaff

hello Lucifer
she's the noisiest girl in the beehive
for the rest of her life
and
she's
down to the grottoes
to the suburban ghettoes
crawling through the blades of roses
cutting her pantyhose

hello Lucifer
Wer oder was ist Luzifer?
